Free Vintage Art
Hi, friends!
I’ve gotten some questions over on Instagram about where I find the vintage artwork that we have all over our house, so I figured I’d do a post on it here!
First off, there are a lot of Etsy shops that sell inexpensive vintage art as digital downloads, and I’ve purchased some of my artwork there. However, there is also a TON of art available for free online, if you know where to look!
A lot of people don’t know that the art in most museum collections is considered “public domain”. That means it isn’t subject to copyright. And with the miracle of digitization and the internet, these museums have a full record of all of their art pieces, available for free digital download, right on their website!
Here is a photo of my entryway, featuring vintage art that I downloaded for free:
To find your own vintage art, simply go to the website of a popular art museum. Say, the Metroplitan Museum of Art. Click on the “Art” tab at the top of the page, then search the museum’s collection for basically anything you want.
You can search by art type, like “oil painting”, by artist, or even by a specific subject like “landscape” or “flowers”. Once you find one you like, just click the download link and you will be the proud owner of a high-resolution digital file which you can print at home or have printed professionally, if you choose!
Here are some of my favorite museum finds so far:
You know I love a good deal (and all things vintage), so learning about this “hack” was a game changer for me!
That’s all for today, friends. Thanks for stopping by, and happy art hunting!
