Apple Picking

Hi, friends!

One of my favorite fall activities is packing up the kids and heading to our local orchard to pick fresh apples.

There’s just no beating the taste of a Granny Smith or Gala right off the tree!

We usually pick a bunch to eat fresh (apples keep for a long time thanks to a natural waxy coating they produce on their skin, so we pick enough for about a month), and more for making pie. A delicious Dutch apple is my favorite!

Of course, the apple orchard is also a great place to snap a few photos! I cherish the annual apple picking photos I have from over the years 🀍.

Look at little Isla munching on her first Gala with her teeny tiny teeth!

Not sure how to find a u-pick orchard in your area? Go to localharvest.org and put in your address to find all kinds of u-pick farms local to you!

In addition to the fun experience of visiting local farms, picking your own fruit is generally less expensive than buying produce from the store. The food is also fresher (obviously), tastier, and you’re helping the environment by reducing emissions related to the commercial processing and transportation of the produce. It’s a win, all around!

That’s all for today, friends! Happy fall and happy apple picking!
