Gingerbread House Decorating Party
Hi, friends!
Christmas is nearly here, and to celebrate the start of the girls’ winter break from school, we had a gingerbread house decorating party!
Decorating gingerbread houses is a yearly tradition for our family, and we’ve tried it every which way. Homemade gingerbread, store bought gingerbread, cookie trains—we’ve tried it all! Because the kids don’t like to eat the gingerbread part of the houses, I decided to try something different this year: chocolate cookie houses!
These little cookie house kits were a steal on sale for $3 each at Michael’s (frosting included!) I put them together and set everything up so the kids could go straight to decorating. It helped to use the icing to affix the house directly to the plate, so things didn’t slide around while decorating.
With some Santa mugs from Target’s dollar spot, a gingham Threshold tablecloth, and darling scalloped plates and napkins (find them here), the tablescape turned out too cute!
Some things we used to decorate our houses:
Mini vanilla wafers
Pirouette cookie sticks
Hersheys kisses
Mini marshmallows
Whoppers
Puffed star baby snacks
I took these photos before the kids got home, but when they arrived, we filled the mugs with fresh hot cocoa as an added treat!
I can attest that the cookie houses were a huge hit (and the littles were on a sugar high for far too long after 😆.)
Happy gingerbread party hosting!
