Thrifted Antique Dresser
Hi, friends!
Check out my latest furniture find!
There was no makeover needed on this antique dresser I thrifted for Max’s room. I fell in love with the rich wood grain and pretty vintage teardrop drawer pulls. So in love, in fact, that I drove an hour each way with a baby and a toddler in tow to pick it up!
There are so many reasons I prefer old furniture to new. The top reason is quality. You know that saying, “They don’t make them like they used to”? It’s true. Real wood and dovetail joints are so much sturdier than the particle board and cheap screw attachments found in most new furniture.
Which brings me to my second reason: cost. Often for the same price as a piece of low quality furniture from a big box retailer, I can find a much better quality used item on Facebook Marketplace.
Lastly, older second hand furniture is unique! Just look at the personality in those vintage drawer pulls! Adding one-of-a-kind items to a home has a way of making everything feel cozier, I think.
Like I said, this dresser was in great shape when I bought it. The drawers slided nicely, the wood finish was perfect, and the hardware was in tact. So all I did before bringing it into Max’s room was vacuum out all of the drawers and crevices, wipe everything down with a mild cleaner, and let it air out in the sun for a couple of hours. Oh, and I did add some adhesive drawer liners. But it was basically good to go. The little work I did do was definitely less time than it would have taken to assemble a similar piece of furniture from a big box retailer!
To style it, I added a lamp, some vintage art, and some small items Max already had in his room.
The peg rail above is perfect for displaying sports memorabilia and hanging items like sweaters and backpacks. I think we have a peg rail in almost every room of our house, I love them so much!
That’s all for today! Thanks for stopping by, friends!
