Meet Honey Bunny

Hi, friends!

I figured it’s time for an introduction to some of the animals on our little suburban farm, so meet Honey, the mini lop!

We adopted Honey from a reputable breeder in our area who is active in the 4H community. One of the reasons we decided on a mini lop is because, counter to what the name suggests, they are actually large rabbits. Their size and demeanor make them great pets for families with children, which has certainly been true for us! She is very sweet and gentle.

Honey is about nine months old now and fully grown. She lives outside in the custom hutch we built for her last spring under our willow tree ☺️. She loves apples, bananas, lettuce and carrots, and she especially loves her daily hop around the yard!

One of the benefits of having rabbits is that their droppings are insanely good fertilizer for plants. In fact, I used her β€œbunny honey” (as it’s often referred to online) to fertilize my sunflowers last summer and they grew to 14 feet tall! I’ve been scooping the droppings from under her hutch directly into our raised beds all winter, and I’m excited to see how well our spring plants grow this year with the extra help!
