Chick Update

Hi, friends!

We have more chick news in the Sivula household!

If you saw my post last week about how hard it’s been to find chicks this year, you’ll be excited to hear that we added four more girls to our flock on Friday!

After chatting with some experienced “chicken folk”, I decided to buy a couple of extra in case some didn’t make it. (Apparently chicks who are shipped in to feed stores from hatcheries can be quite stressed and it’s not uncommon to lose some.) We ended up adding a Barred Rock, a Rhode Island Red, a Buff Orpington, and a Calico Princess to the brood, bringing our total to six chicks!

I decided to name them all after Bridgerton characters because, why not? So we have Daphne, Charlotte, Genevieve, Sienna, Penelope, and Lady Featherington. Unfortunately, sweet Genevieve (who was my daughter’s favorite and super cuddly) passed away on Saturday, leaving us all pretty heartbroken. Even though I was warned it might happen, it was so hard to try everything and still not be able to save her. However, amidst the sadness there were also lessons about love and loss, caring for even the tiniest of god’s creatures, and the importance and impact of every life, no matter how small. We loved her as well as we could, for as long as we could 💛.

As sad as it’s been to lose Genevieve, we are so grateful that the rest of the chicks are healthy and growing well! It’s wild how quickly they grow—they’re already trading in some of that new chick fluff for big girl feathers!

Feel free to check in on IG for video updates, if you’d like to see the little peepers in all their cuteness!

That’s all for today, friends! Thanks for stopping by 💛.
